Supporting Your Child When They’re Learning English: A Parent’s Guide

Parents are their children’s first teachers, and they continue to be essential educators throughout their lives. However, when it comes to learning English, parents play a key role in supporting their children. This  following blog will discuss some tips on how to support your child when they are learning English.

1) Create a study room:

Designate a space in your home as the study room. This will send a message to your child that learning English is essential. It doesn’t have to be a big space, just enough for a desk, chair, and some shelves for books and materials. Make sure the study room is well-lit and comfortable. Having a quiet space where your child can focus on their studies is also important.

If you don’t have an extra room in your house, you can create a study nook by setting up a small table and chair in the corner of the living room or kitchen. Just make sure there are no distractions like TV or loud music so that your child can concentrate on their studies.

2) Provide learning opportunities:

There are many ways to provide learning opportunities for your child. You can buy or borrow textbooks, workbooks, and other materials from the library. You can also find websites, apps, and YouTube channels that offer English lessons. If you are interested, you can follow the access newcomers tab on Saddleback Educational Publishing. They provide ELL curriculum materials to support the education of English language learners.

Another great way to provide learning opportunities is to expose your child to English as much as possible. This can be done by watching English movies and TV shows, listening to English songs, and reading English books together. You can also look for community events where your child can interact with other kids who are learning English.

By providing these opportunities, you will show your child that you are committed to their education and that you believe they can succeed in learning English.

3) Hire a tutor:

You can hire a tutor if you want to give your child extra support. For example, a tutor can help your child with their homework, prepare them for tests, and improve their overall English skills. You can find tutors online or through community organizations.

When hiring a tutor, it’s important to find someone who is experienced in teaching English as a second language. You should also look for someone who is patient and supportive. Most importantly, you want to find a tutor who your child gets along with and feels comfortable working with.

4) Be supportive:

One of the most important things you can do as a parent is to be supportive. This means encouraging your child, celebrating their successes, and motivating them to keep going when they feel discouraged. It’s also important to provide emotional support when your child is feeling frustrated or overwhelmed.

You can show your support by attending your child’s English classes, helping them with their homework, and talking to their teachers about their progress. You can also join community groups for parents of English language learners. These groups can offer valuable information and support.

By following these tips, you will be able to give your child the support they need to succeed in learning English. Just remember that every child is different and will learn at their own pace. So be patient and encourage your child to keep trying, and they will eventually reach their goals.

Why You Should Add Images To Your Writing (Particularly Online Content)

Writing well is one thing. But for today’s online audience, it’s not enough. When most people see a wall of text in their browser window, they immediately switch off. It’s just too much information for their minds to absorb all at once.

For that reason, breaking up your text with images is generally a good idea. If you look at most online articles, you’ll see that writers invariably chop them up into sections, with relevant images giving users time to pause.

“But,” you might say, “my writing doesn’t need images. It’s already descriptive enough by itself. Plus, I am not referring to anything pictorial, so using images is moot.”

That might all be true, but images still play a critical role for the following reasons:
